3PL New Year Resolution: Improve Your Fulfillment Services

3PL New Year Resolution: Improve Your Fulfillment Services

Fulfillment Services

OK. It’s a new year, time to take stock. Whether your fulfillment services carried you through the holidays beautifully or left your customers in the lurch, there is always room for improvement. So let’s resolve to give customers an even more fulfilling experience in 2019.

How can you do that?

Assess

Are you currently using a 3PL provider, or are you still struggling to handle fulfillment services in-house? The more your company grows (and isn’t that your goal?), the less sense it makes to retain internal fulfillment. It’s not your core business, so it’s an ever-increasing distraction and expense. Challenges from hiring and training to quality control and the high cost of updating technology keep you awake at night and leave your customers wondering if you’ll come through this time or let them down.

Even if you’re using a 3PL provider, are they able to keep up with your growth without sacrificing quality, speed, or accuracy? With so many variables in play, taking our self-assessment quiz is an easy way to get to the bottom line. Knowing where you stand tells you where you can do more.

Assess Your Current Fulfillment Services Now!

Define “improvement”

If you’re in growth mode, you’re probably adding new products. And more marketing promotions. Maybe a subscription service that requires special monthly kitting. All that means more customers, and that means higher overall fulfillment volume as well as periodic spikes. At the very least, your fulfillment services will have to meet that increased demand without faltering and without delays. To improve, they’ll have to do even better.

Are you seeing too many returns? Improving accuracy at every step – ordering, pick and pack, and shipping – can dramatically reduce returns. You’ll not only save money, you’ll improve customer happiness, because few things irritate customers more than deliveries that are missing items or just plain wrong.

If you expect to improve in 2019, you need a fulfillment partner that can keep up with your company and still get things right the first time. That’s not easy, and not every potential 3PL provider is up to those challenges. You’ll want to choose wisely, because dropping the ball is not an option in 2019.

Resolve to go from good to great

Certainly, correcting fulfillment mistakes is essential if you expect to serve customers well. But why shoot for better, when you could be giving customers a truly outstanding experience?
