There’s more to pick and pack fulfillment than finding products in a warehouse and putting them into shipping containers. Even that shipping package can be surprising and enticing – and brilliantly branded. Anyone remember Gateway Computers’ black and white cow print boxes? Most often, though, your customer’s order arrives in a “plain brown wrapper” – a cardboard carton (or maybe a rip-proof bag) that gives hardly a clue as to the contents.
Your customer knows what they ordered, but the suspense is killing them anyway. They can’t wait to break into that box.
So what happens when they do?
Do they see a mess – stuff carelessly tossed inside, perhaps with some type of filler material, along with the order paperwork? Perhaps that’s all your customers expect. But many companies have customers who are more sophisticated than that. They buy your products because your brand stands for consistently superior quality. They expect to be treated as if you care about their business. So a sloppy looking package is a surprise, all right – a negative one.
When you eat in a great restaurant, you know your meal is going to be scrumptious because it is beautifully presented on the plate. It looks and smells mouth-watering. You can’t wait to taste that first forkful. Does your pick and pack fulfillment process deliver that same sensory excitement to your customers?
It should.
Here at USA Fulfillment we call this their “unboxing experience.” If it looks like a clearance bin filled with discards, how can they possibly love it? It’s shouting “undesirable goods!” at them. Instead, you want to wow your customers when they open their package. They should be glad they ordered from you before they even get their hands on their new merchandise.
Does this sound off the charts to you? Some of our USA clients tell us their customers are so wowed – and surprised – they post pictures of their packages online for their social media friends to see. No amount of money can buy marketing like that! Off the charts, indeed.
Call USA. We’ll help you turn unboxing into an event.
One element of our high touch philosophy is the belief that working partners should help each other. So around USA, fulfillment doesn’t stop with pick and pack. We work with clients every day to help them improve every aspect of their customer care as well as packing and shipping. We do all that to ensure each customer has an amazing shopping experience, end to end. Surprised? You shouldn’t be.
